Minnifield is one of few veteran players on the Virginia team. He has been there for 5 years and is also the most experienced. He redshirted in 2007 whilst playing every game as a Freshman and Sophomore on both defence and special teams and has carried that through for the years following. During the 2010 season he had 6 Interceptions which ranked him 2nd best in the ACC. This year he has started all 12 games recording 50 tackles, 1.5 sacks and 3 Interceptions one of which he returned for a Touchdown. He is well sized for the CB position listed at 6'0 and 185lbs he can jump up with most receivers. He also posses good speed running a 4.40 but has been clocked running a 4.38 in the 40 yard dash. Another benefit which has to be taken into consideration is that he has an amazing leap meaning he plays bigger than his size would suggest.
He has a superb nose and can locate the ball with ease along with hitting hard. He is known for sometimes becoming slack and missing tackles which can easily be fixed by getting him constantly tackling and making sure he doesn't break down in his fundamentals. He is great in a zone coverage scheme but little has been seen of his man to man skills which asks the question if he can be a shutdown corner in the NFL. Going into the 2012 draft Minnifield will most likely be a 1st round pick falling no later than the top of the 2nd.
